Saint
Patricks Parade Press Release Every
year's St Patrick's Parade seems to have it's own personality. Past year's
entries include Washington County Sheriff's armored truck, a variety of
floats from schools and local businesses, car clubs and a motorcycle drill
team. Royalty have graced the parade from Miss Teen Rodeo, Clark County,
Columbia County, Tillamook County, Yamhill County Rodeo Courts as well as
Woodland's Planter Days Court. Washington County Sheriff's Mounted Posse
always act as Color Guard. Even "Everybody's Friend" Ronald McDonald has
joined in the celebration! The
parades more than 30-year history began as a partnership with KUIK, our
local radio station. The original parade route was on TV hwy starting at
the parking lot of Bimart on the east end of Hillsboro and ending in the
parking lot of what is now Winco on the west end of Hillsboro. That was
twice as long as the current parade route. The
celebration will kick off with staging beginning at 9am in the parking lot
across from Hare Field, on NE Grant Street in Hillsboro. The parade starts at 11am at Hare
Field. The parade route
continues east to Cornell Road, South on Main Street, West on Main to
2nd Ave, North on 2nd to Grant Street, and East back
to Hare Field. The party
will continue with the Corned Beef and Cabbage Feed sponsored by Sports
Look. Its staff volunteers their time to provide this authentic (and
tasty) traditional Irish meal. In recent years Sports Look has expanded
it's community involvement through events like this. Find out more about
Sports Look at WWW.SPORTSLOOK.COM. The
Hillsboro Boys & Girls Club will host games for the kids. These
activities will take place in the Hillsboro Civic Center Plaza between
1st and 2nd on Main in downtown Hillsboro. Plan on
hundreds of smiling faces & spirited dancing. There is still time to
be in the parade. Get together the family & friends and put together
your own spectacle. Entry
forms are available at Hillsboro and Forest Grove Chamber offices or at
Murphy's Furniture in Cornelius. 100% of the $20 entry fee will go to the
Hillsboro Boys and Girls Club.

If you heard a lot of laughing and the sound of large splashes this last Saturday coming the direction of the city of Cornelius, you were not imagining things. Citizens and Community Leaders joined together in the parking lot of Murphy's Furniture to have some good old-fashioned fun in celebration of the beginning of summer. Hands down the #1 attraction was the newest addition to this second annual Celebration - The Celebrity Dunk Tank, brainchild of the event coordinator, Mary Murphy. It's hard to say who was the biggest draw - was it Mayor Bill Bash? City Manager David Waffle - Cornelius Police represented by Sergeant Schmid or Commander Jensen - Local Business owners Tom Evans of Grande Foods or Bascos, Daniel Dominguez - Principal Martinez of Echo Shaw Elementary - Cornelius Fire, represented by Joel Peterson or Robert Conrath - Maria Aguilar of the Cornelius Library or Free Orchards Elementary Kindergarten Teachers Crystal Bayley or Amber Vanzant. Who ever took the fall most often, all should be commended for their bravery against the chilling depths of the tank. The light mist ended up being a bonus for those who ventured to climb and conquer the monster slide giving it even more speed with a bit of a splashy ending. The artistry demonstrated on the beaming faces of wee attendees courtesy of The Boys and Girls Club face painting, provided a fine substitute for the absent sun. Squeals of success emanated from the coin toss produced by Friends of the Cornelius Library, as treasures were toted away. Appetites worked up by the variety of activities were satisfied by the tasty feast of dogs and chips prepared by the Sports Look all volunteer crew and courtesy of the generous donation of all the food by Grande Foods, plus the hundreds of cupcakes that were consumed by the many winners of the ever-popular cakewalk. Though the weather wasn't idyllic, Murphy's Furniture feels the event was a great success and thoroughly worth the investment of time and money. Right now it is more important than ever to appreciate family and community and celebrate the positive. Just one more way to say "Thank You", as well as raise money for a very good cause - our local Boys and Girls Club. Past Celebrate Cornelius Pics Press Release Christmas Tree Lot Murphy's
